"Counselors to America's Small Business" - The Minot SCORE office provides free and confidential business advice and counseling tailored to meet your needs personal objectives. Fargo also offers workshops, for a modest fee, for both start-up businesses and in-business entrepreneurs.  SCORE volunteers are real-world professionals with time-tested knowledge to help small businesses succeed. Our counselors are experts in such areas as accounting, finance, marketing, management and business plan preparation and obtaining business loans.

"Helping Women Business Owners in every community" - SBA's Office of Women's Business Ownership (OWBO) is the only federal government office charged to help women become full partners in economic development through small business ownership. The American Indian Business Development Office provides easy access to people, programs and services that are available to support American Indian business owners and staff.   The American Indian Business Development Office provides high quality assistance to existing and prospective American Indian small businesses in the form of counseling, training, and research which results in job creation or retention and economic wealth.


Specialized Assistance

     SBIR North Dakota (Center for Innovation)
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Technology administers the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program. Through these two competitive programs, SBA ensures that the nation's small, high-tech, innovative businesses are a significant part of the federal government's research and development efforts. Eleven federal departments participate in the SBIR program; five departments participate in the STTR program awarding $2billion to small high-tech businesses.

"Trade Expansion Through Advocacy, Education and Expertise" - The North Dakota Trade Office is dedicated to expanding North Dakota exports to high-demand foreign markets through advocacy, education and expertise.  Members of the Trade Office staff are located in Bismarck, Fargo, Dickinson and Grand Forks. Executive Director Susan Geib and her staff provide a full-range of export services including market-entry research, export education and certification, trade missions and assistance in finding reliable international distributors.

NDSU's IBID department gives business consulting,  technical assistance, and proprietary research. The primary service is one-on-one consulting in identifying and helping to solve problems. From nuts and bolts issues like prototype development, quality assurance, inventory control, plant layout, human resources, and product design to the most involved questions concerning technology upgrades and electronic communications. IBID can provide access to expert, informed consultants who will work with companies or individuals in complete confidentiality.

The Impact foundation has two main technical assistance programs for startups: Impact’s Procurement Assistance Center provides high quality assistance to existing and prospective N.D. small businesses in the form of counseling, training and research which results in job retention and creation, and greater prosperity for North Dakotans.  The North Dakota American Indian Business Development Office provides high quality assistance to existing and prospective American Indian small businesses in the form of counseling, training, and research which results in job creation or retention and economic wealth.

The ND DOC's Division of Economic Development & Finance has five full time business development counselor to aid Primary Sector businesses in startup and expansion.  Research, business development and international trade assistance is available to primary-sector businesses through the Economic Development and Finance Division of the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
